Hello there . . .
. . . and welcome to my website. I’m Richard Warrick, smallholder by day, aspiring writer by night, and partaker of small-scale adventures when my anxiety allows.
RESTLESS LANES
AN ANXIOUS CYCLE FROM ONE END OF BRITAIN TO THE OTHER
Join me, an anxious and obsessive middle-aged man, as I embark on the journey of a lifetime, cycling solo and unsupported from one end Britain to the other.
Restless Lanes follows my adventures over two weeks from Land’s End to John o’ Groats. From terrifying dual carriageway encounters, battering storms, and crippling loneliness, my story also captures moments of sheer joy, breathtaking landscapes, and forgotten histories.
Restless Lanes is my first book and will be available to buy in 2026.

Short Stories & Articles
I also publish articles and short stories on Medium. These cover a range of subjects, but mostly centre on the environment and the (im)practicalities of running a smallholding. So expect anything from the possibilities of localised economies to the viability of installing a ram pump . . .
Films & Shorts
I have written screenplays, and occasionally they are adapted into films. I also film shorts covering the things that I love, mostly cycling and walking in wild places.

A GOOD BOOK HAS NO ENDING
Set against the backdrop of a seaside resort awaiting the start of the summer season, this poignant short film tells the story of a second-hand bookshop owner’s final day before moving on.
