Restless Lanes Launch Event – 17th July 2026

Had a really great night at the Restless Lanes book launch event at The Deepend in Glasgow. Hosted by the incomparable Danny Alderslowe, we heard about sustainable cycling initiatives, had a chat with Neil from the GoBike campaign, and had a wee blether about my book with some lovely Q&As.

Thanks to everyone who came along and made it a great night!

Hello there . . .

. . . and welcome to my website. I’m Richard Warrick, smallholder by day, aspiring writer by night, and partaker of small-scale adventures when my anxiety allows.

RESTLESS LANES

AN ANXIOUS CYCLE FROM ONE END OF BRITAIN TO THE OTHER

Restless Lanes follows my adventures over two weeks from Land’s End to John o’ Groats. From terrifying dual carriageway encounters, battering storms, and crippling loneliness, my story also captures moments of sheer joy, breathtaking landscapes, and forgotten histories.

Restless Lanes is my first book and is available now in both paperback (£10.99) and eBook (£3.99).

“. . .if you are looking for a genuinely entertaining read that’s informative, sad and funny at times where you end up rooting for the main character to complete the ride then Restless Lanes is the book you should read.”

Short Stories & Articles

I also publish articles and short stories on Medium. These cover a range of subjects, but mostly centre on the environment and the (im)practicalities of running a smallholding. So expect anything from the possibilities of localised economies to the viability of installing a ram pump . . .

Films & Shorts

I have written screenplays, and occasionally they are adapted into films. I also film shorts covering the things that I love, mostly cycling and walking in wild places.
